Welcome
This site
has been established to acquaint, or in some cases re-acquaint, you with
the last of the big, unballasted centreboard dinghies racing in New
Zealand - the Emmy, as the M-Class Yacht is affectionately known by her
many admirers. The on the water bits
of the year are well behind us and its time to remember the seasons
achievements; the winners and grinners, the yellers and the swimmers,
the running into things bits, running into each other moments, running
over the odd skipper, and running around looking for breeze etc. It'll
all come out on the night so you best be there to defend yourself ( I
was about to say integrity...).
We had a greater spread of guns throughout the fleet this year than ever
before and there was plenty of activity in the handicapping stakes so
the prizes should be well spread around the fleet - all except the Logan
which evidently someone didn't want - but he's sleeping OK now).
The prize giving is once again combined with RAYC and promises to be a
good night for all so come along and support the Class - and find out
the truth
26th June - Club Prize giving from 6pm.
Happy hour 6-7pm followed by a meal and then prize giving
Tickets for the club prize giving can be purchased from the club office
during the week. Can you please book early to help us with catering
numbers.
Importantly there is also a working bee this Saturday so if you can lend
a hand please come along and help out.
RAYC
Working bee again this Saturday 19th 9amImportant RAMP notice
Ramp Parking.
Today all the boats were moved from the ramp area to the middle car park
near the RAYC. Space on the ramp is at a premium and the boats had to be
moved to allow for haulage and works to take place.
As you enter the main entrance to "The Landing" the boats are to the
left of the of the main road.
Please ensure that all the boats are removed before the end of this
weekend or charges will incur.
THE
70th LOGAN
Last Saturday saw the annual running of the big race for the year, the
Arch Logan Memorial.
Nine boats took to the water for a race that fulfilled all the
epectations we have of yacht racing with a great test of crew skills,
knowledge of the winds and tides, courage and luck. The result was a
race decided in the last hundred or so meters and a winning margin of
only 13 seconds.
Mach One was the worthy winner with Matapan second and Matara third.
Hard luck award goes to Marquita for a capsize at the finish that
undoubtably cost them a handicap win. The many various versions of the
race were told at the prizegiving so I'll just post the results. If you
want the colourful versions ask the winning or losing helmsmen, there'll
be several versions of the truth.
